Children’s YouTube star Ms Rachel highlights plight of malnourished 12-year-old girl in Gaza
American YouTuber Rachel Accurso, who runs the beloved children’s channel Ms Rachel for Littles, recently used her platform to highlight the plight of a young girl in Gaza.
Accurso, who has remained vocal in her support for Palestine despite severe backlash, shared a picture of Rahaf Ayed, who according to Palestinian journalists, suffers from a critical health condition as a result of severe malnutrition and requires urgent medical intervention.
In an interview with Middle East Eye, the 12-year-old said she wished she could go back to how she was and dreamt of her hair growing long again, so she could comb it, like she used to.
“I wish I could go back to how I was.”
Accurso, in an Instagram post, wrote, “I want you to know that I heard your voice and what you wish for. You wish you could go back to the way you were. You wish your hair would grow back and that you could comb it. You wish you could go back to school. You wish you could stand again while praying because right now you can only sit.”
The YouTuber assured Ayed that so many people wished these things for her and that the majority of people wanted every child to live, thrive and grow into healthy adults. She added that she had a young daughter and wanted everything for Ayed that her daughter had.
Accurso said that the Palestine Children’s Relief Fund was working to help Ayed and so many other children in Gaza get better.
“I want to tell you there is hope. They are getting food and medical care to you and we are all doing everything in our power to help you.”
She continued that she was standing and praying for Ayed because the young girl was unable to stand up herself. “Maybe other people will stand up to and join me in a prayer for you,” Accurso added.
“I hope you meet you [sic] one day and hear about your studies. I’m here for you.”
Under the post, Pakistani activist and author Fatima Bhutto thanked Accurso for continuing to post “about this horror being inflicted on children.”
Since Israel’s war on Gaza started after the Hamas attack of October 7, 2023, Israel has killed a child in Gaza every 45 minutes, making it an average of 30 children killed every day over the past 535 days, Al Jazeera reported.
Meanwhile, Stop Antisemitism, a self-proclaimed “non-partisan US-based organisation” that fights against antisemitism, has called on US Attorney General Pam Bondi to investigate Accurso after she voiced support and raised funds for the children of Gaza.
